The MDT Twilight sensor/ Temperature sensor KNX detects and evaluates the outdoor brightness and outdoor temperature

The new sensor records the outdoor brightness and the outdoor temperature via two sensors and makes the measured values available on the KNX bus.

Outdoor values for KNX building automation

To control the building automation dependent on the environment conditions, outside values such as brightness and temperature must be monitored. These values allow an optimisation of the heating and blind control. Our new MDT Twilight sensor/ Temperature sensor (SCN-DTSEN1.01) has been developed for outdoor use. It evaluates brightness and temperature values over two separate sensors and provides the information to the KNX system.

The measured values can then be applied to automate the system. The Light sensor measures within the range of 10 – 100.000 Lux and supplies the threshold value for brightness (1.000 – 100.000 Lux) and twilight (10 – 1.000 Lux). With this information, for example, blinds and shutters can be raised in the mornings as the dawn breaksand lowered in the evening as dusk sets in. One of the product features of the sensor is the day-/ night function object. This function enablesother KNX components, e.g., MDT Glass Push-button Smart, switch into the night mode when it gets dark outside.

The Temperature sensor measures the outside temperature within a range of -20 °C to +55 °C.As with the twilight sensor, two threshold values can be defined for the temperature sensor.
Based on these threshold values you can e.g., block shadowing by the shutter actors to protect your blinds and roller shutters, if there is frost. Of course, you can visualize the measured outside temperature inside the building with, e.g., an MDT Glass Push-button II Smart or via the MDT Object Server VisuControl Easy II. This way the resident can check the outside temperature.
